Expands collection period light bulbs

Since February this year people are picking up the light bulbs distributed by the Government as one of the 31 measures Savings Plan and Energy Efficiency.

Given today that the English are collecting some 40,000 bulbs every day, the Ministry of Industry has decided to extend the collection period until 31 December to be allocated the largest number of light bulbs.

Until 29 October, more than 6,500,000 citizens have approached the post office to pick up the low-energy bulb, which represents an electricity savings of 390 gigawatt-hours per year, equivalent to the consumption of electricity of about 97,500 families.
Regarding CO2 emissions, low energy light bulbs have so far prevented spread a release to the atmosphere of more than 252,000 tonnes of this gas pollution.

An energy saving lamp saves around 100 euros during their lifetime, consuming 80% less energy to produce the same amount of light and lasts 6 to 8 times longer than incandescent bulbs.
